Welcome to the Leontief Centres Home Page!

The International Centre for Social and Economic Research - Leontief Centre was established in 1991 on the initiative of the Mayor of St. Petersburg Anatoliy Sobchak and Wassily Leontief, a St. Petersburg-born economist and Nobel Prize winner. The first Leontief Centre president was Anatoliy Chubais.

The Leontief Centre is a non-profit, independent research and consulting organization, which includes:

In 2009, for science projects financing Leontief Centre Endowment was founded. In June 2009 Leontief Centre Academic Board has started its work.

Summary of Leontief Centres Decade-Long History:

The Leontief Centre has completed over 500 projects, including 400 research and consulting projects, held 150 conferences and workshops, carried out 60 publishing projects, and authored 1200 publications in periodicals, monographs and journals;
The partnership network of the Leontief Centre encompasses 47 countries, 290 cities of the Russian Federation, 80 international and more than 300 Russian organizations;
Leontief Centre employees have passed 40 internships in Russia and abroad. Every year, more than 15 students intern with the Leontief Centre;
The Leontief Centre has launched and supports 15 Websites visited by more than 1000 daily. This year alone, users from more than 70 countries have visited our Websites. The Leontief Centre operates some 60 computerized workplaces, maintains 10 databases that can be viewed and updated from any of our user terminals;
The Leontief Centres Information Department has 2500 books, 1500 of them in Russian, and 1000 in foreign languages; we subscribe to 50 titles of newspapers and magazines annually;
The Leontief Centre employs 70 staff (including part-time employees). The average age of our employees is 35;
The Leontief Centre employs 2 Doctors of Science, 17 Candidates of Science, 65 university graduates, 4 holders of two university degrees, 2 graduate students and 5 undergraduate students; 5 of Leontief Centre employees teach at universities in St. Petersburg. More than 150 consultants work for the Leontief Centre on a temporary basis;
The following 9 key areas of specialization are represented at the Leontief Centre: economists, historians, social scientists, geographers, mathematicians, engineers, computer programmers, telecommunications specialists, PR specialists and a graphic designer.
